VA Southeast Network achieves success in housing homeless Veterans - In a momentous stride towards addressing the issue of homelessness among Veterans, the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7) announces successful permanent housing placement of 2,818 Veterans in 2023. The initial goal for VISN 7 was to place 1,819 homeless Veterans into housing. The placement of 2,818 homeless Veterans represents over 154% of the targeted goal. (02/01/2024)

VA VISN 7 Announces New Birmingham VA Health Care System Director - The Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Oladipo A. Kukoyi as the new Executive Director for the Birmingham VA Health Care System, in Birmingham, AL, effective Sept. 26, 2021. He will be responsible for a health care system serving 68,000 Veterans in 24 counties at a 141-bed tertiary care teaching medical center and nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics. (09/27/2021)

VISN 7 enhances geriatric emergency care for older Veterans - The VA Southeast Network (VISN 7) launched the Department of Veteran Affairs Geriatric Emergency Department initiative today at the Atlanta VA Health Care System Atlanta, Ga., and Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, S.C. through a standardized, comprehensive care model. The VISN 7 medical centers are two of 16 VA sites of care to launch the initiative making VA the nation’s largest integrated health network with specialized geriatric emergency care. (09/09/2021)

VA Southeast Network (VISN 7) Appoints New Network Director - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Walker, MD, as the Network Director, VA Southeast Network (VISN 7). In this role, Dr. Walker will serve as the senior leader responsible for overseeing the delivery of health care services to more than 1.2 million Veterans living within the states of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. VISN 7 administers nearly 50,000 COVID-19 doses, publishes facility vaccination numbers - Today Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 7 announced that they have administered over 49,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in a month and a half’s time to Veterans and VA health care workers. (02/02/2021)

VISN 7 encourages Veterans to leave smoking behind - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is encouraging Veterans to take the first step, Nov. 19, to stop smoking as part of the annual Great American Smokeout to improve their physical and mental health by combining cessation counseling with other VA clinical resources and support. Ralph H. Johnson VAMC announces new chief of staff - The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is pleased to announce its new Chief of Staff Christopher D. Blasy, MD, effective October 26, 2020. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Blasy will oversee all clinical operations at the medical center and its six outpatient clinics. (11/02/2020)

New CAVHCS Director Appointed - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Amir Farooqi, FACHE, as Director of the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. Mr. Farooqi will oversee the delivery of health care services to more than 134,000 Veterans and an operating budget of more than $273 million. (09/11/2020)
